Our Program
Children with SCI
There is no doubt that a spinal cord injury is one of the most devastating injuries anyone may endure. It affects not only the injured but, their loved ones, as well. It can happen at anytime, and knows no nationality, religion, economic status, or age. But when a spinal cord injury happens to a child, the already catastrophic injury becomes even more tragic.
However, there is hope…
This portion of our website is dedicated to all children who have sustained a spinal cord injury and their families. Its purpose is to increase awareness and communication about exercise-based recovery.
We want parents and families to understand that our training program helps children as well as adults. In fact we believe, and over the years have seen, that children have the best chance of recovery. They have a greater potential for improvement because their bodies are still growing, which means that their nervous systems are still organizing. Consequently, their bodies and nervous systems are pliable and trainable.
The true tragedy of children with SCI occurs when they are given no hope, encouragement, or chance of recovery. It is crucial that their families know that there is a window for recovery and the longer they wait, the smaller that window gets.
Project Walk staff has a great deal of experience working with children and has the knowledge and skills necessary to maximize their recovery. Our staff knows how to get the best out of children and how to push them to their fullest potential in a fashion that keeps them interested.
Please view our client storylines and see what their parents have to say about raising a child with SCI.
If you are interested in speaking with any of our clients or their parents, please make a post on our message board including your email address.
