Like all of our services, this program is very unique. In our opinion and experience, we believe that children have, on average, the best chances of regaining function. We know that each injury is different and each individual outcome will also be different. Our program is not a cure, quick fix or guarantee for anyone, and recovery can take years. What we do know for certain is if the paralyzed body is not properly stimulated on a continual basis, the body will simply adapt to its wheelchair environment. At this point, loss of muscle mass, bone density, and central nervous system function occurs. This outcome is almost guaranteed without nervous system stimulation.
The objective of our program for children is two fold. First, we educate the family on the long-term benefits of exercise-based recovery. Second, we teach a family member or trainer to work with their child on a consistent recovery program. We empower the family to train at home or a local gym and provide long-term objectives, guidance and coaching. Return visits are a necessity as improvements and changes occur, but the majority of the work can be done at home. |

Since we are working with children, the workout program must be fun but each workout is supported by developmental movement patterns that all humans perform as they develop. By using closed chain exercises to stimulate the nervous system, we facilitate an environment for healing and regaining function.
Patrick, our Ambassador for Children with SCI, was injured at 14 months when he sustained a C5 injury. Over eight years later he started our program. He is continually improving and is now learning to stand and take steps. Kids are still growing and developing so their nervous system is reorganizing. As a child with SCI grows, the body will grow into and adapt to the wheelchair. Instead, why not provide the nervous system stimulation necessary for a chance beyond a wheelchair.
This section of our website is dedicated to our young clients. You will see their stories through video and interviews with their parents. You can read about their injury and their journey to recovery. If you have questions for any of the parents, please contact us at info@projectwalk.org. All of these families have lived through what you are going through right now. They once were looking for answers, too. They understand and will impart their knowledge and experiences. These are not employees of Project Walk, but part of our family, and they have seen firsthand how The Dardzinski Method™ has benefited their child. |
