Project Walk Rudy Award
2008 Rudy Award Winner Kenny Evans
Of course we have many to choose from, but this year, the Rudy Award goes to Kenny Evans. Kenny and his wife, Paige, relocated to San Diego from Virginia in pursuit of recovery. Kenny has a quiet man personality and is pure business. Each hour, each day, each month, he just works. Congratulations, Kenny! What is the Rudy Award? Each year since 2005, our Specialists have selected a client that personifies the movie, “Rudy”. This client has the spirit and the drive to improve. They don’t complain, they always work hard, and they rarely miss a day. This person is all business; they are here on a mission to improve. The Rudy Award represents the true spirit of Project Walk – the knowledge and experience of the program partnered with the unbridled work ethic of the client. The Rudy Award goes to a full-time, in-house client who has been in the program for at least a year who regularly impresses the staff. Each staff member nominates a client and as a group, they decide the winner. During our annual Steps to Recovery event, the winner of last year’s Rudy Award will announce the new winner. For the first two years, The Rudy Award went to Dan Cummings, now a graduate of Project Walk. Many of our full-time clients still follow Dan’s work ethic as an example of how hard you need to work for recovery. A critic once accused Project Walk of hand picking its clients when the truth is our clients choose us. We have a center full of the hardest working, most determined individuals in the world. Each day they come in demanding that our Specialists meet their efforts, and together, we are achieving the impossible. This dynamic atmosphere is contagious and each new client that starts the program sees it, feels it, and understands it. We call it the Project Walk smile; they found the place they were looking for. The Rudy Award celebrates the special spirit and determination of the client.
