different from those of other client s at Project Walk. Unlike our other clients who suffer spinal cord injuries from traumatic injuries Peggy’s SCI was a result of Lyme’s Disease. Peggy believes that she was bit around the age of 17 but it was years before she received a correct diagnosis, thus resulting in much delay in her recovery. Using a manual wheelchair for the last eleven years it was only a recent two years ago that Peggy found a doctor that is able to work with her and give her a better understanding of where her body is in relation to her nervous system and recovery.
Peggy’s discovery of Project Walk®was one of timing. Her fiancé, Jay, was searching the internet for workout equipment and happened upon Project Walk’s website. Upon calling down to Carlsbad Peggy and Jay were informed that Project Walk®Portland was right in their back yard and Ted Darzinksi would be there later the same day. They jumped on the opportunity to meet with him and started the program shortly after. Call it fate, call it luck, or call it serendipity: Peggy calls finding Project Walk®all of the above; simply meant to be.
Peggy has always known that she will walk again, understanding that it will not happen overnight. She recognizes the devotion and strength it will take and is ready to give it her all. She has a personal web page set for her progress and donations at www.peggywillwalk.com .
