Spinal Cord Injury Certification

In order to be employed as a Project Walk Certified Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Specialist our staff meet the following prerequisites:a bachelor’s degree in an exercise science program approved by Project Walk, experience as an exercise physiologist, athletic trainer, personal trainer, or within a rehabilitation setting. Many of our staff members also have certification from NCSA, ACSM,  and NASM.Certified Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Trainer

Certified Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Trainer  (CSRT)

Individuals employed at a Project Walk Facility must complete the “CSRT Training Program’” held at Project Walk Headquarters in Carlsbad, CA. This program consists of various online and in-house courses that will introduce participants to spinal cord injuries and The Dardzinski Method. This program also requires hands-on training and the completion of several exams.  Once an individual has completed this program he/she may begin to train SCI client s and work towards the CSRS certification.

CSRT Training Program

  • Program takes place over four weeks at Project Walk Headquarters.
  • Successfully complete the following exams:
    • SCI 101
    • Introduction to The Dardzinski Method
    • Safety
    • Basic Modalities
    • Developmental Activity Scale (DAS)
    • Final Practical Exam (includes entire advanced modalities and client evaluation process)
  • Complete web-based training course functional electrical stimulation presented by Restorative Therapies Inc.
  • Complete a minimum of 40 hours of hands-on training at Project Walk Headquarters.

Certified Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Specialist (CSRS)

Certified Specialists can obtain three different levels of certification. These levels posses different requirements in the areas of client tracking, course work, hands-on training, and even research. In addition to these requirements, Certified Specialist must be employed by a Project Walk facility. Independently contracted staff may not carry the title of Certified Specialist nor receive any benefits associated with this distinction.

Level I Certification Requirements

  • 1,200 hours of hands-on training
  • Successfully complete final exam

Level II Certification Requirements

  • 4,000 hours of hands-on training
  • Lead Specialist for a Home Program, Telehealth Program, and Family Track
  • Complete written and practical final exam

Level III Certification Requirements

  • 7,000 hours of hands-on training
  • Complete research project focused on activity-based recovery
  • Successful completion of thesis
