For 5 years I listened to the doctors, physical therapists, and occupational therapists.  I sat in my chair and I adapted, and gosh darn it I did a fine job too!  That just wasn’t enough for me, though.  I missed being more physically active and working out my entire body.    I was screaming to get out of mainstream medicine’s box. It just didn’t fit anymore.  So 5 years and 28 days after I became a quadriplegic and was supposedly wheelchair bound for life, I made the best decision of my life.  Against the wishes of my family, skeptical doctors, and therapists, I moved 500 miles away to southern California and began attending Project Walk.

When I arrived at Project Walk I had a very hard time keeping my balance.  Any little bump or jostle would cause me to fall over and I wasn’t able to get back up. My arms were very weak and I had little nervous system activity through out my body.

Project Walk means everything to me.  I used to be an athlete and I did extraordinary things with my body.  Project walk has allowed me to connect with this passion and accomplish the extraordinary once again.
I have already accomplished much more than my doctors ever said I would.  I am living independently, I can roll over, I am learning to crawl, and have started to learn how to stand in a walker. I wasn’t able to work on this when I first started PW, but now I can!  All of this after the doctors told me I would never use a manual wheelchair or even feed myself, and this is just the beginning!  I started Project Walk 5 years after my accident and amazing changes are now taking place within my body, and it is all so very exciting!  Now others may know that they can do it too!
Every time I am at Project Walk I see confirmation in myself and others that I am healing my body and I will walk again, in spite of what the medical doctors predicted.

In college I participated in competitive cheerleading.  While doing gymnastics I collided mid-air with a boy and shattered the fifth vertebrae in my neck.  The doctors told me I would never walk again and I would have to rely on using a power wheelchair to get around.
